What people mean by black mold
The term black mold is widely used to describe dark green to black mold growth, often associated in public discussion with Stachybotrys chartarum. In practice, many mold species appear dark, and color alone cannot identify a species. What dark, dense growth reliably indicates is that a material has stayed wet for an extended period, often from a hidden leak or ongoing condensation.
Whatever the species, the right response in Shingletown, CA homes and buildings is the same: remove the growth with proper controls, clean the surrounding area and correct the moisture problem. We do not use fear to sell the job. We explain what we see and what it will take to resolve it.
Removal under containment
Dense growth releases large numbers of spores when disturbed. Before removal begins, we isolate the work area with plastic sheeting and sealed entries and run HEPA air scrubbers to keep the zone under negative pressure. Technicians wear respirators and protective suits, removing them before exiting.
Affected drywall, insulation, carpet and other porous materials are cut out in manageable sections, misted to reduce dust and sealed in heavy bags inside the containment. Wood framing and subfloor with growth are HEPA vacuumed and cleaned, sanded or blasted as needed. Every surface in the zone is then HEPA vacuumed and wiped before containment is removed.
The leak behind it
Black mold rarely appears without a clear moisture source. Common causes include leaking shower pans and tub surrounds, drain line leaks under sinks, roof and window flashing failures and poorly vented bathrooms. During removal, the source typically becomes visible once materials are opened.
We document the source, repair it where it falls within our scope and advise you on repairs that need another trade. After verification of cleaning, we rebuild the area. Post-remediation testing by an independent party is available if you want outside confirmation.

Color does not determine toxicity. Any significant indoor mold growth should be removed and its moisture source corrected.
No. That leaves growth in place and does not address the moisture. Removal is required.
Species testing is available but usually does not change the removal method. We will explain when it is useful.
